Hello everyone,

I am currently preparing to install my new IKEA Platsa wardrobe system and have a specific question about mounting the back panel.

Could you please explain in detail how to properly attach the back panel so that it is stable but does not negatively affect the overall appearance? The manual briefly covers this, but I am unsure about the best way to secure the back panel—especially whether special screws, nails, or clips are needed, and if there are particular techniques for aligning it.

Additionally, I would like to know if it is better to install the entire back panel at once or to divide it into sections. How do you handle this with larger units to prevent the back panel from shifting or warping?

I look forward to detailed, practical advice, and I would appreciate hearing about your personal experiences.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to join the conversation because I found the rear panel installation on the Platsa really interesting! Here’s how I handled it during my last assembly:

- Assemble the cabinet completely and make sure it’s level using a spirit level.
- Use small wooden spacers underneath if the floor isn’t perfectly even.
- Attach the rear panel loosely at first—just gently hammer a few nails at the top or bottom.
- Then realign everything again.
- Finally, fix the panel completely with nails, but as loken already mentioned: be careful, the rear panel can split easily.

In the end, I had a very sturdy rear panel that fit nicely flush.

The most important thing: be patient and don’t force the rear panel in! 🙂

Good luck, you’ve got this!

Based on my experience:

- Assemble the cabinet completely.
- Level it on a flat surface or use shims.
- Attach the back panel in one piece.
- Secure it with small nails.

That is sufficient. There is no need for screws or other fasteners.

Exactly right! I would like to add that it can be helpful to partially drive in the nails beforehand – just enough so they hold, but still can be easily adjusted.

This allows you to position the back panel precisely before everything is fixed permanently.

Even though the back panel often seems like a minor detail visually, it provides your PLATSA system with essential stability and prevents doors and components from starting to wobble or squeak.

Many thanks to everyone who is helping out so thoroughly here!

Before attaching: Make sure your cabinet carcass is perfectly vertical and level. If the floor is uneven, use small shims or height-adjustable furniture glides to compensate.

I will do that, sounds very reasonable.

I think it’s worth roughly aligning first and then nailing the back panel piece by piece.

I will try that as well and gradually work my way toward the final date.

One last question: My back panel has small pre-drilled holes in addition to the nails—can I use these as guides and nail only there? Or would it be better to work a bit more freely to ensure the back panel fits perfectly?

Looking forward to your advice!
