Hello everyone, I recently purchased a few IKEA Malm dressers and would like to securely attach them to the wall. Since the dressers are quite tall, I want to prevent them from tipping over, especially if there are children in the household. Therefore, I am wondering what types of wall brackets or safety straps are specifically recommended for Malm furniture, how to best install them (for example, attaching to both the wall and the furniture), and if there are any considerations regarding different wall materials, such as drywall (plasterboard) versus concrete walls. A detailed description of the procedure would be very helpful, including tips on the necessary tools and any special safety precautions. Thank you in advance!

It’s better to first secure the wall side and then dock the dresser

That makes sense. This way, you can position the bracket more precisely and adjust it if needed. Thanks for the tip!

Additionally, I’m considering whether it would be helpful to install small angle brackets on the inside of the furniture back panel to reinforce the support. Malm is made of MDF, which can easily tear out under lateral stress.

Does anyone know alternatives or tricks to improve the screw holding in the dresser? Maybe using wooden dowels or reinforcements?

Hey everyone, I installed my Malm dressers about a month ago and I'm super happy! 🙂

I followed Jaime’s advice and used a stud finder to locate the wall studs – it was absolutely the best tip! The installation then went really quickly.

Additional metal brackets to reinforce the screw connections

Great idea! I attached small metal brackets on the inside myself, and now it’s very sturdy – no wobbling at all!

Important: Use better anchors for drywall; since then, my furniture feels completely secure. So go for it, this is brilliant!!! 😉
