Hello everyone,

I want to mount my Ikea Metod wall cabinets on a solid wall, but I’m not yet fully familiar with the correct procedure. My walls are made of solid concrete, and I want to make sure the cabinets are firmly and safely secured, especially considering the weight when they are fully loaded. Which anchors or screws are best suited for this type of wall? Are there any specific installation guidelines for securely attaching Metod wall cabinets to solid concrete walls?

I look forward to tips on preparation, choosing the right mounting hardware, and the actual installation. Thanks in advance!

Regarding the embedment depth: For 8 mm heavy-duty anchors, a general rule of thumb is to drill a hole at least 60 mm (2.4 inches) deep. The anchor itself is usually about 50 mm (2 inches) long. The additional depth ensures that the anchor is fully embedded in the material, providing sufficient holding strength.

And one more question about installation: The Metod wall cabinets have that mounting rail – is it better to screw the cabinets directly into the wall individually or to install the mounting rail on the wall first and then hang the cabinets?

Installing the mounting rail on the wall first is the safer method from a technical standpoint. It ensures an even distribution of weight and makes the installation much more flexible and secure, as you can adjust the cabinets later without needing to drill new holes.

I would like to add the following:

- Before final installation, align the mounting rail precisely using a spirit level.
- The wall anchors should be chosen according to the wall’s moisture level; for damp concrete, consider using special anchors or corrosion protection for the screws.
- Screws should ideally be tightened with a torque wrench to avoid over-tightening, which can reduce holding strength.

This significantly increases durability and safety.

If anyone needs help during installation: working in pairs makes hanging the wall cabinets much easier.

That confirms my suspicion, thanks!

A practical question: What should I do if the wall is not completely even? I have small irregularities in some areas. The mounting rail is quite rigid, so how can I proceed to ensure the cabinets do not hang crookedly or that tension does not build up on the screws?

For uneven walls, you can use wooden wedges or special spacer washers to level the rail. It is important that the rail is securely fixed at all key points and does not wobble.

Check this with a spirit level before hanging the cabinets.

Great, thanks! I’ll give that a try. What materials are best suited for these wedges? I don’t want them to deform after a few months due to moisture or weight.

Wooden wedges made of beech or hardwood have proven effective because they are less prone to deformation. Alternatively, you can use plastic wedges from a hardware store, which are moisture-resistant and slightly more flexible, sometimes offering advantages.

Make sure they are cut precisely to fill the gap evenly without causing stress.

Finally, it is best to secure the wedges with screws to prevent them from shifting.
