Hello everyone,

I am planning to install some Ikea Metod drawers in my new kitchen and want to make sure I secure them properly to ensure long-lasting durability and avoid any material or installation issues.

Specifically, I am interested in which mounting points are best to use, whether it makes sense to replace the supplied screws, and if there are any special recommendations for durable connections considering the typical base materials used in the furniture (particleboard, metal fittings).

I am also curious about the correct load distribution and maintenance of the drawers.

How should I fasten Ikea Metod drawers for long service life? Are there common mistakes I should avoid? I look forward to your experiences and expert advice.

That is an essential statement.

Exactly, that is absolutely crucial.

Regarding the reinforcement elements, I would add that they are not always necessary, but definitely advisable for higher loads or frequent use. Ikea dimensions and materials are solid, but compared to solid wood kitchens or professional furniture, they are somewhat more delicate.

Are these reinforcements really necessary or just a precautionary measure?

They are more of a precaution, especially if you use the drawers heavily every day or fill them with heavy items.

About the issue with fully extended drawers: The full-extension slides in Metod cabinets are rated for the weight, but each full extension shifts the load further forward, creating additional stress on the particleboard mounting points. That’s why it’s important to regularly check the screws and add reinforcements if needed.

My tip: Check the mounting points after a few weeks and adjust if necessary. This will significantly extend the lifespan.

Screw in carefully, using all fastening points.
Use metal brackets for heavy loads.
Align drawer slides straight to avoid wobbling and damage to the material.
Tighten regularly.
