Hello everyone, I am currently facing the task of securing IKEA Metod doors in a way that ensures long-term stability without warping or loosening. I am particularly interested in which installation techniques or reinforcements have proven effective to guarantee lasting durability. I already have the included hinges and screws but want to be certain that the doors won’t start sticking or wobbling after several years. Are there any special tricks, materials, or additional aids such as wall plugs, washers, or other fasteners that you recommend? I am also curious whether gluing or screwing combined with certain pre-treatments of the doors makes sense. Thank you in advance for your well-founded advice!

To add to the question about washers:

I recommend stainless steel washers with a smooth surface. These hardly corrode and prevent the screw heads from seizing. Plastic washers can deform over time, which makes the screw connection unstable.

When installing, the washers should sit flush under the screw head and should not tilt, so that the hinges fit evenly and precisely. This way, the screw’s torque remains optimal and the load is distributed evenly.

Can anyone provide more detailed information on the suitable types of washers?

Stainless steel and nylon are good options. Stainless steel for strength, nylon as a vibration dampener. Just make sure the size matches the screw.

In addition to the previous answers, I recommend paying close attention to the precise adjustment of the hinges when installing the IKEA Metod doors. Especially at the beginning, aligning them using the supplied tool is essential to avoid the need for later readjustments.

It can also be helpful to apply a small amount of white assembly paste or removable threadlocker to the screws to prevent loosening due to vibrations.

The overall goal is always to achieve a durable connection while still allowing for maintenance.
