Hello everyone, I recently installed Ikea Metod cabinets in my kitchen and am now facing the challenge of mounting the corresponding doors as quietly and precisely as possible. The reasons for this are that I don’t want to hear any annoying rattling noises when opening and closing the doors, and I also want the doors to close flush without any sticking or the need for readjustment.

I have already reviewed Ikea’s installation manual, but I find the information somewhat general, especially regarding silent closing and precise alignment. Are there any tips or proven methods for adjusting and installing the doors to avoid them hanging crookedly or rattling?

I understand that the special hinges allow for some adjustment, but what is the best way to proceed in order to achieve the highest level of fit and quiet operation?

I look forward to your advice and experiences!

Hello arijanpe!

Your concern is completely understandable – a kitchen shouldn’t sound like a vibration platform 😄. With Ikea Metod doors, you have the classic clip hinges that can be adjusted in three directions. My tip:

- First, roughly position and secure the doors.
- Then gently turn the adjustment screws to optimize the alignment.
- These hinges come with built-in soft-closing mechanisms to prevent noise. If there is still rattling, check if the door is hitting the frame anywhere.
- You can also add small silicone bumpers or foam rubber strips at contact points if the closing isn’t smooth enough.

A bit of patience with the fine adjustment and good tools will help a lot. Make sure to adjust in small steps and test in between.

Good luck – soon you’ll have a kitchen that’s quieter than your microwave 😉!

Hello arijanpe,

to mount your Ikea Metod doors quietly and precisely, here is a short guide:

- Step 1: Hang the doors and use the horizontal adjustment screws on the hinges to align the gap between the door and the cabinet frame. The goal is an even spacing all around.

- Step 2: Check the vertical adjustment. It helps to slightly lift or lower the doors, which is also adjustable on the hinges.

- Step 3: The depth adjustment ensures the doors sit flush with the cabinet frame.

- Step 4: To keep closing noise to a minimum, make sure the hinge stops are correctly installed. Ikea already provides soft-close hinges, which are essential!

- Step 5: If needed, apply small silicone strips at sensitive contact points; this further reduces noise and prevents rattling.

It is important not to tighten the screws too much, as this can block the adjustment mechanisms. Work systematically from coarse to fine adjustments and test opening and closing several times.

If you notice issues like crooked doors or marks along the edges, it’s worth checking the sides of the cabinet frame—sometimes they are slightly warped, requiring fine calibration.

If you like, I can also send you an overview of the screws on the Ikea Metod hinges and which direction each adjustment affects.

Correct, the soft-close Metod hinges make the biggest difference.

Additionally:
- Align the door properly using the three adjustment options on the hinges
- Apply small protective pads if there are noises from the cabinet or door
- Never overtighten the screws, as this makes adjustments difficult

This ensures silent closing and a perfect fit.

Hello everyone!

I want to emphasize once again how important it is to carefully adjust the hinges! At first, I also had slight rattling noises and doors that weren’t completely flush. After some patience and experimenting, everything was perfect!

My tip:
- Take your time! This can’t be done in just five minutes.
- Adjust the doors with small turns and test opening and closing after each change.
- When the doors fit well, the result will last a long time, and you will have a kitchen that closes so quietly you can barely hear it.

I think this idea is great! I did exactly that, and it made the sound of closing extremely pleasant. So: patience pays off, folks! And a bit of craftsmanship!
