Jotan43Hello everyone, I am currently planning to equip my new kitchen with Ikea Metod cabinets and am facing the challenge of attaching the doors so that they fit perfectly. My specific question is: How do I attach Ikea Metod doors so that they sit flush and evenly on the cabinet carcass, without annoying gaps or irregularities appearing over time? I am particularly interested in how to work with the factory-installed hinges and adjustment screws, whether there are any specific tips or steps to follow, and if readjustments might be necessary. It would also be helpful to know if it’s possible to influence the door’s closing pressure to avoid the doors closing or opening abruptly. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!
The Metod doors are designed for easy adjustment at three points. First, it is important to properly hang the doors on the hinges – the door usually fits quite precisely at this stage. Then, you should work with the three adjustment screws:
- The vertical screw for height adjustment
- The horizontal screw for lateral alignment
- The screw for closing pressure
Make adjustments in small steps. I recommend, especially when multiple doors are installed side by side, to first adjust the height and then the lateral alignment, so the doors sit flush next to each other. Finally, adjust the closing pressure so the doors close firmly but not too tightly. After a few days of use, further fine-tuning is advisable, as doors and cabinets often settle slightly.

Hey, I don’t find adjusting the Metod doors that difficult once you understand it! 🙂 It’s worth being patient and making small turns on the adjustment screws more often. I even installed the doors with a small gap between them and then fine-tuned them step by step – it’s enjoyable and you can really see the improvement! So stick with it, it works great!
For additional precision: Ikea Metod hinges are basically designed for easy installation, but for an optimal fit, I recommend the following systematic approach:
- Check that the cabinet boxes are perfectly vertical before mounting the doors
- Hang the doors in their factory-set position
- Adjust the vertical screw until the door edges align flush with the top and bottom of the cabinet
- Adjust the horizontal screws until all doors are evenly aligned in relation to each other
- Fine-tune the pressure with the third screw to hold the door firmly closed without overtightening
Optionally, and for more demanding installations, using spacer washers is possible if the cabinet box is slightly warped. Regular readjustment is also part of proper maintenance, as moisture and temperature changes can affect the material over time.

Optionally, and in the case of complex planning, the use of spacer washers is possible if the cabinet carcass is slightly warped. This is an important point. I wonder how often users actually check the condition of the carcasses before installing the doors. If the substructure is not properly aligned, even the highest quality hinges won’t help much, right?blapau schrieb:
After a few days of use, readjustments are recommended, as doors and carcasses often settle slightly. That would be my advice as well – ongoing fine-tuning is an often underestimated step. What do you think about the adjustment screws? Are there any limitations where the mechanism might reach its limit due to too many adjustments?Similar topics
