Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of installing my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet doors so that they fit perfectly and without unnecessary gaps. I understand that the hinges are adjustable, but despite multiple adjustments, it’s not working properly: either the door doesn’t close flush or it rubs against the side.
I have already ensured that the cabinet carcass is mounted completely straight and I am using the original Ikea hinges. My question is: how do I install Ikea Metod doors for the best possible fit? Are there any special tips for mounting or adjusting that go beyond the usual hinge adjustment options? I would appreciate detailed advice, preferably including possible measurement points and adjustment steps. Thanks in advance!

I would also recommend testing the doors for a few days after the initial rough adjustment to allow the hinges to 'settle in'That’s a very good point! Although Ikea hinges are quite sturdy, the material can settle slightly after installation.
Additionally, it can be helpful to hold the door slightly open while tightening the screws to distribute the pressure evenly. This helps prevent warping of the door or hinges.
Also, if the fit still isn’t perfect despite all adjustments, you might consider placing shims or small furniture spacers under the cabinet body to make very slight alignment corrections.
All in all, a slow and careful process is worthwhile, along with regularly measuring the gap between the door and frame using, for example, a strip of paper or a ruler.
I want to address a topic that is often underestimated: the ongoing inspection of hinge screws after installation. Especially with Metod, it can happen that screws become slightly loose after a few weeks.
My advice:
- Check again within two weeks after the initial installation,
- Slightly tighten some screws,
- And then regularly inspect every few months.
This not only improves the fit over time but also extends the lifespan of the doors.
Additionally, it is advisable to maintain the hinges with a small amount of spray oil, which can prevent unwanted squeaking.

How do I attach Ikea Metod doors for the best possible fit? Are there special tips for installation or adjustment beyond the normal hinge settings?Hey Sayan, I really like your detailed question 😊! Here’s a little tip from me: When hanging the doors, first loosely attach all the hinges, then roughly align the door, and only afterwards tighten all the screws gradually.
This way, you can better check if the door fits perfectly without fixing it too tightly before fine-tuning. And keep in mind, a small gap is usually better than unnecessary pressure that can damage the hinges.
Good luck with your project! If you run into any issues, just reach out again.
