Hello everyone, I’m currently facing the challenge of mounting IKEA Platsa units on a wall that isn’t perfectly straight. The wall has slight deviations in several areas, which makes attaching the cabinets difficult because the modules don’t sit flush or end up crooked.

My question is: What is the best way to install IKEA Platsa on uneven walls without the furniture becoming unstable or looking untidy afterward? Are there specific techniques or tricks to compensate for irregularities? I have already considered using thin wedges, special fasteners, or adjustments on the sides, but I’m unsure how to do this properly or if it is even possible within the system’s design.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hey, I know the feeling 😊 Uneven walls can be really frustrating when working with modular systems like PLATSA. From my experience, a bit of flexibility is your best friend. For example, I used small wooden wedges to fill the gaps and initially secured the cabinets only temporarily to find the best alignment. It’s important not to force everything too much during installation – it’s better to leave a bit of space and fill the joints with silicone or acrylic sealant. This adds stability and also looks better. If you have any more questions, just ask!

Hello, I will try to provide a step-by-step guide on how I install PLATSA cabinets on uneven walls:

- First, measure the wall precisely to determine the degree of unevenness.
- Place the cabinets against the wall and use wedges or wooden spacers to fill any gaps.
- Make sure the cabinets are not twisted or misaligned to avoid future drawer issues.
- Choose fixing points on the wall that anchor securely into the masonry and adjust to the wall’s contour using the wedges.
- Do not fix the wedges behind the cabinets with large nails; instead, use adhesive or sealant to protect the materials.
- Finally, use joint seals or acrylic to conceal any gaps.

A common mistake is to screw the cabinets directly onto the wall without adjustment, which causes stress and warping.

I have always used small wooden wedges for uneven walls and initially fastened the cabinets loosely. Then I checked and adjusted them using a spirit level. This way, you prevent the cabinets from being crooked later on.

I completely agree. A precise fit to the wall contours is crucial for stability. In addition to wooden wedges, I recommend checking the wall with a spirit level. If there are significant irregularities, it is advisable to install a preliminary subframe, for example made of battens, to create a flat mounting surface. This prevents warping of the cabinet and ensures the long-term proper function of hinges and drawers.

Hey, just a quick note from my experience: I adjusted PLATSA on a really crooked wall using flexible plastic shims – these allow for fine-tuning and help prevent everything from getting misaligned. It’s important to take your time and not rush, otherwise you’ll regret it later. And yes, a little acrylic sealant nicely conceals the gaps in the end! 😎
