Hello everyone, I am planning to get an IKEA Platsa system and am currently facing the challenge of assembling this furniture in the most space-efficient way possible. I am particularly interested in how to use the modular system to make the best use of available spatial capacity – for example, in small apartments or niches. Are there any proven strategies for arranging and installing the modules that you would recommend? How do you combine the different sizes and components to use the space efficiently without making the furniture bulky or cluttered? Looking forward to your tips and experiences, thanks in advance!

The approach of accurately estimating the space requirements in advance is absolutely right.

Exactly, this assessment forms the basis of any planning. In addition, the structural engineering must be taken into account, especially when designing tall building elements. Securing against tipping is essential, for example with wall fixings, to ensure maximum stability in compact constructions.

Sometimes it helps to assemble the furniture temporarily first to get a sense of the space. I often feel that building too quickly without a break makes you reluctant to make later changes – and then things don’t fit perfectly after all. I also think it’s important to let go of rigid ideas and allow for spontaneous adjustments during assembly.

Another tip: For smaller rooms, use several narrow units instead of one large cabinet. This keeps things flexible and makes it easier to reconfigure during moves or when the room layout changes. Combining open shelves with cabinet elements also adds depth and a sense of airiness without reducing storage space.

Thank you for this important advice regarding planning and structural engineering. I hadn’t really considered the safety aspect until now.

I am now thinking about working modularly with several narrow units and possibly integrating corner modules, but from reading your posts, I’m concerned that mounting to the wall might become complicated. Are there practical recommendations on how to implement the wall mounting system for Platsa in the best way, without too much effort or risking damage to the walls?

Also, I’m interested in how you balance open and closed compartments so that the space doesn’t end up feeling too cluttered or busy.
