Hello everyone, I am planning to install Ikea Metod wall cabinets in my open kitchen and have some questions. Specifically, I’m interested in how to mount them securely, ensure they hang straight, and make sure they visually fit well with the open floor plan. What tools and fastening materials would be recommended, and are there any practical tips to keep in mind when hanging wall cabinets? I would also like to know if there are any special recommendations for open kitchens, for example regarding sightlines or ventilation. I look forward to your tips and experiences!

The issue of fastening to hollow clay blocks is, in my opinion, crucial, as safety is often compromised.

Another point to consider: In open-plan kitchens, the visual alignment with adjacent elements such as pendant lights or shelves should also be taken into account.

In an open kitchen, it is also worthwhile to position the cabinets so that the fronts look appealing

I completely agree with that. Still, I wonder if slightly offsetting the cabinets might also add some dynamism to the space. But, of course, that is a matter of personal taste.

For precise installation of Ikea Metod wall cabinets in open kitchens, I recommend the following methodical approach:

- Preparation: The wall must be checked for load-bearing capacity. For hollow brick walls, using metal heavy-duty anchors or chemical anchors is advisable, as standard plastic wall plugs are often not sufficient.

- Attach mounting rails exactly level using a laser measuring device. Adjustable screw holes facilitate fine-tuning after hanging the cabinets.

- After hanging the cabinets, systematically level them and adjust the horizontal and vertical positions with minor corrections via adjustment screws.

- Distance from the cooktop: At least 50 cm (20 inches) for fire safety and to keep steam away.

- Finally, tighten and check all fastenings.

These steps ensure a stable and visually clean installation.

Great thread! I installed my Ikea Metod wall cabinets in my open-plan kitchen exactly like this two months ago. What helped me:

- A laser level is absolutely essential!
- Take your time aligning everything; it really pays off.
- I kept the backs of the cabinets slightly away from the wall (about 5 mm (0.2 inches)) to improve air circulation and prevent moisture buildup behind the cabinets.

This not only makes the kitchen look better but also increases its durability. Good luck to you all!

That’s a clever idea that many overlook—especially in open-plan kitchens without partition walls, it also adds a bit more visual interest.

Also, consider arranging the wall cabinets asymmetrically. Of course, that’s not everyone’s preference, but some manufacturers, like Ikea, offer many modular options to create unconventional layouts.

A small tip: Use small plastic spacers to protect the wall from scratches if you mount the cabinets slightly offset.

Important during installation: Tighten screws securely to prevent any wobbling. Match the anchors to the type of wall. Drill holes precisely, otherwise the wall cabinets will be crooked. If possible, check again after installation to ensure everything is still level.
