Hello everyone,
I am planning to assemble several Ikea Metod tall cabinets on my own and am looking for the safest methods and practical tips to manage this without much help.
What I know so far: The cabinets are quite heavy and bulky, plus there are the doors and various shelves. The biggest challenge, I think, is to stand them upright and attach them to the wall securely without anything tipping over or getting damaged.
What experiences have you had? Are there any special tricks or tools (e.g., clamps or assembly aids) that make it easier to assemble the cabinets alone? How can I best hold the cabinets steady while screwing them together?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Are there any special considerations for different wall types (e.g., drywall vs. concrete)? Do I need to keep anything in mind when installing alone without a second person to hold the cabinets while the anchors are being set?Proper installation is possible on any wall type. For drywall, use strong cavity anchors and, if possible, fix a horizontal cleat to the wall to distribute the load. This also makes it easier to install on your own.
For concrete or brick walls, heavy-duty anchors are essential. A practical tip for working alone: use an adjustable step ladder or construction lumber to temporarily hold the cabinet at the correct height while you install the anchors.
Safety tip: Check the wall’s load-bearing capacity and the attachment points on the cabinet frame beforehand.
Happy New Year! 🎉
Regarding installing a tall cabinet on your own: Use a small tripod or a furniture lifter to help, as it makes aligning it much easier. If those aren’t available, improvised solutions like a sturdy chair or a box will also work.
And honestly: look at the cabinet with a wink, as if it were a new housemate eager to settle firmly. That makes the process easier! 😉

Place cabinets carefully on their edge, do not tilt. This is an important detail, thanks for the reminder.
A few final tips that are often overlooked:
- Before finally fixing the screws, check that all drill holes are correctly aligned.
- Always use a spirit level, especially when installing multiple tall cabinets in a row.
- Make sure the individual modules are securely connected during assembly.
- Plan the assembly so that you install the shelves last. This keeps the cabinet easier to handle.
Hope this helps!
