ᐅ How can I install Ikea Metod tall cabinets safely on my own?

Duleo57Hello everyone,
I am planning to assemble several Ikea Metod tall cabinets on my own and am looking for the safest methods and practical tips to manage this without much help.
What I know so far: The cabinets are quite heavy and bulky, plus there are the doors and various shelves. The biggest challenge, I think, is to stand them upright and attach them to the wall securely without anything tipping over or getting damaged.
What experiences have you had? Are there any special tricks or tools (e.g., clamps or assembly aids) that make it easier to assemble the cabinets alone? How can I best hold the cabinets steady while screwing them together?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

I would recommend removing all shelves and doors first before assembling the cabinet body. This way, you can more easily tilt and stand the cabinet upright. When attaching it to the wall, be sure to use the supplied wall fasteners and check whether the anchors and screws are suitable for your wall type.
Hello Duleo57,
since you are probably working alone, here is a step-by-step guide that might help you:
- First, assemble the carcass completely without doors and shelves.
- Use a tool holder or a clamp attachment to secure parts during screwing.
- Use temporary supports: for example, sturdy boxes or stools can serve as holding points to upright the cabinet.
- When standing the cabinet upright, place it near the wall where it will later be mounted. This way, you can fix it immediately after standing it up.
- Work slowly and frequently check the stability.
Important: Do not rely solely on floor adjustment; wall mounting is mandatory to prevent tipping.

Assembling Metod tall cabinets solo? Challenge accepted! 😅
The key is to use temporary aids to make the work easier. I found that two 60cm (24 inch) clamps worked great to secure the cabinet body to the table, making the assembly process much smoother.
When standing the cabinets up: place them carefully on their edge, avoid tipping them over. And be sure to use the screws for wall mounting as instructed – this will save you from unpleasant surprises.
Keep your spirits up, you’ve got this!

Don’t rely only on floor leveling; wall fastening is essential to prevent tipping. That’s true, I also plan to secure the cabinets firmly to the wall. Are there any special considerations for different wall types (e.g., drywall/plasterboard vs. concrete)? Is there anything additional I should keep in mind when installing alone without a second person to hold the cabinets while the anchors are set?
For different wall types, it is essential to use the appropriate anchors and screws.
- Heavy-duty anchors are suitable for concrete or solid walls.
- Special cavity anchors (e.g., toggle bolts) should be used for drywall.
If you are working alone, it helps to temporarily support the cabinet with a simple wooden batten or a folding trestle while you install the fasteners.
Take enough time to measure the fastening points carefully and double-check the alignment before final tightening.
