helmutpe422 Jul 2021 08:27Hello everyone,
I am currently planning the assembly of my new Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets and am facing the challenge of properly integrating built-in appliances such as the oven, dishwasher, and refrigerator. My question is: How do I assemble Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets with built-in appliances so that all parts fit correctly, the technology works properly, and the installation is both stable and visually flawless?
Specifically, I am interested in:
- How should I approach assembling the base units when appliances are already being integrated?
- Are there special sequences or techniques that need to be followed?
- What should I consider regarding electrical and water connections to avoid fitting issues with the cabinets afterward?
- What tips are available for aligning and securing appliances in the correct cabinets?
I have already reviewed some Ikea instructions, but these mostly cover cabinet assembly without appliance integration. Thank you for your advice and experiences!

I would recommend assembling and aligning all the basic elements completely without any appliances first. Then install the built-in appliances and secure them at the designated mounting points. You should connect the electrical and water supplies only at the very end to allow flexibility during fine adjustments.
Hello helmutpe42,
Basically, it is important that when assembling the Ikea Metod system with built-in appliances, you first ensure the stability of the cabinet carcasses. The furniture itself must be perfectly level because otherwise the appliances cannot be aligned correctly. Here are some points you should keep in mind:
- Assemble the cabinet frames according to the instructions. Pay particular attention to adjusting the feet so that the entire kitchen unit is level.
- The appliances should only be installed after the respective cabinet has been assembled. This way you can ensure that all side panels fit properly and nothing is warped.
- For fastening: Usually, Metod provides pre-drilled screw holes or mounting brackets that you can use to secure the appliances. Use common fasteners that hold firmly, but do not overtighten the screws.
- Electrical and water connections: Ideally, these should be prepared by a professional. This way, during assembly you have enough leeway to easily move or adjust the appliances. Avoid having the appliances fully connected during the furniture assembly to prevent damage to the connections.
If you have problems with alignment, you can also use spacer strips to adjust the correct front position.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!

I would recommend first assembling and leveling all the basic elements without the appliances. Then install the built-in appliances and secure them at the designated mounting points.I generally agree with this, but I wonder if that is really the best approach for every kitchen with built-in appliances. There are also specialized panels and fastenings that should be secured during assembly.
Sometimes it even makes sense to partially integrate appliances (for example, built-in ovens) in certain cases—that is, pre-fix them during the cabinet assembly—to avoid complications when fitting the front panels later. Has anyone handled it this way, or have you had conscious different experiences?
The issue of water and electrical connections is also critical: the planning must be completed beforehand and coordinated with the furniture assembly; otherwise, achieving an accurate fit will be difficult. I also recommend involving your installer or tradesperson early in the process.

I basically agree, but I wonder if this is really the best approach for every kitchen with built-in appliances.I would like to disagree, at least regarding the general statement. Ikea’s installation guidelines, which I have followed several times myself, recommend a clear separation: first assemble the cabinets and carcass, then install the appliances.
On one hand, this avoids unnecessary weakening of the furniture’s stability during assembly. On the other hand, adjusting the appliances afterward is easier. Pre-fixing can also cause problems if the dimensions are not exactly right.
Regarding water and electricity: It is not enough for the connections to just be prepared; they must be precisely matched to the installation dimensions, especially for dishwashers and cooktops. Otherwise, you often encounter unsightly fit issues or dangerous tensile stresses on the lines later on.
In summary: very careful preparation is necessary, but it is best to follow the instructions.
