Hello everyone, I am currently assembling my IKEA Metod kitchen and have a question specifically about the drawer slides with soft-close mechanism. My question is: How do I install the Metod drawers so that the soft-close function works correctly? I already have the IKEA instructions, but they don’t seem very detailed regarding the damping mechanism, especially when it comes to hooking in and fine-tuning the dampers. Does anyone know the exact steps, or perhaps any tips on what to watch out for to ensure the drawer not only operates smoothly but also closes softly and quietly? Are there common mistakes or tricks during assembly and installation? Thanks in advance for your help!

Is there a recommended way to test the soft-close function to ensure it operates evenly along the entire length of the drawer? I had the impression that if I close the drawer very gently, the damping doesn’t engage immediately. Is this normal, or should the damping activate right away?

The soft-close dampers are designed to activate only when the drawer moves at a certain speed and is close to the cabinet frame. This means that if you move the drawer very slowly and gently, the damping will not engage immediately.
For testing, I recommend closing the drawer at a moderate to fast speed and observing whether it closes smoothly and with damping.
Also, make sure there are no debris in the track channel and that the slides are installed cleanly, as this can otherwise affect their function.

A frequently overlooked aspect is the proper engagement of the drawer into the cabinet frame. Even minimal play or misalignment here can prevent the damper from working optimally.
Also, if there is any sticking, check the alignment of the drawer front with the side panels. A slight adjustment using the screws on the front can make a significant difference.
If you like, I can send you a step-by-step guide for fine tuning.
