Hello everyone, I’m currently working on a project to assemble several IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets with soft-close doors and have a few questions to ensure everything goes smoothly.
My main question: How do I properly assemble IKEA Metod cabinets with soft-close doors so that the doors close neatly and the soft-close mechanism works correctly? Are there any special tips for installing the hinges or things I should pay particular attention to?
I have partially read the instructions, but some steps seem rather brief, and I want to avoid the doors hanging crooked or not closing properly.
I’m also interested to know if there are differences in assembly when it comes to the taller pantry cabinets with soft-close doors compared to the standard base cabinets.
I’d appreciate any advice, including recommendations on tools and planning before the assembly!

Hello Gabriela, I also had some difficulties with my Metod kitchen. One thing I hadn’t heard much about before was the importance of leveling the base.
If the cabinet is not perfectly level, even the smallest misalignments can affect the closing of the doors and the soft-close function. I can only recommend using a good spirit level and, if necessary, small shims or the adjustable feet to align the cabinet precisely.
This made a crucial difference for me after I had adjusted all the hinges correctly.

That’s a great tip, which I’d like to add to: The Metod cabinets actually have leveling screws on the feet that allow you to compensate for minor unevenness.
Before installing the doors, it’s always worth fully leveling the cabinet frame first. This makes adjusting the doors much easier.
And don’t hesitate to check multiple times with the spirit level—especially with tall cabinets, it really makes a difference.

Soft-close is not just a nice extra; it also extends the lifespan of the doors because closing is smoother and quieter.
My tip for handling the hinges: When installing the doors, make sure the hinges are properly “clicked” into place and the metal clip is engaged correctly. For me, it helped to screw the doors in loosely at first, then check by hand how they swing and close.
If you notice the soft-close feature isn’t working properly, dust or small wood chips often get caught in the mechanism – so keep it clean!
Good luck, and don’t worry: over time, the hinges won’t cause you any problems.
