I’m planning to install IKEA Metod cabinets with sliding doors in my kitchen, but I have a few questions beforehand and would appreciate practical tips based on experience. I understand that Metod cabinets are generally quite flexible, but I’m looking for a clear step-by-step guide or at least helpful advice specifically on how to install the sliding doors, as they operate differently from regular hinged doors.
I’m particularly interested in the following points:
- Are there any special tools that I absolutely need?
- What is the exact process for installing the tracks and door panels?
- What should I watch out for to prevent the doors from sagging or sticking?
- Does anyone have experience with heavier front panels and how best to compensate for that?
If anyone also has useful tricks for aligning or adjusting the doors, I would be very grateful! Thank you in advance for all your tips and shared experiences.

Hello nihattau40,
I have already assembled several Metod cabinets with sliding doors and am happy to help. The tools you basically need are a cordless drill, a screwdriver, and, if necessary, a spirit level and a tape measure.
The sliding tracks are attached to the cabinet frame at the top and bottom. It is important that they are perfectly straight, otherwise the doors will stick later on.
Secure the sliding tracks firmly before hanging the door panels. When hanging the doors, make sure the rollers on the doors run properly in the tracks. After hanging, you can usually adjust the height and depth of the doors using small screws on the rollers.
Heavy fronts can be secured with additional stabilizing screws on the tracks. A second person helps with the adjustments. Good luck!

Tools:
- Cordless drill
- Screwdriver
- Spirit level
First, install the tracks at the top and bottom of the cabinet. Both must be parallel.
Hang the sliding doors onto the tracks and adjust the height and depth using the adjustment screws.
Consider the door weight and reinforce the tracks if necessary.

I understand that this might sound complicated at first, especially when using Metod for the first time and dealing with the sliding doors. It’s normal to be concerned about alignment and the doors sticking. What helped me was measuring the tracks multiple times and checking them with a spirit level before attaching the doors. When adjusting the doors, I also made mistakes several times and had to unscrew and try again. Stay relaxed—that’s part of the process, and most of the time it’s just a small screw that needs to be turned correctly for the door to operate smoothly.
Even though it can be frustrating at times, you’ll probably enjoy it when the final result fits perfectly—that’s what keeps me motivated.

One additional question: What is the best approach if the doors still stick despite multiple adjustments? Are there common mistakes that cause sliding doors not to glide smoothly?
I’ve heard that you sometimes have to be careful with the load on the doors, especially with heavy glass fronts. How can you ensure that the tracks don’t warp or get damaged in these cases?
I would really appreciate further tips, especially regarding load concerns and possibly the maintenance or treatment of the tracks.
