Good morning everyone, I am planning to install integrated lighting in IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets. I am especially interested in tips on how to properly and safely install LED lighting so that the power supply is neither visible nor intrusive. Additionally, I would like to know if there are recommended methods for neatly hiding cables and what electrical safety precautions I should consider. Are there differences between the various Metod cabinet models regarding the installation of such lighting solutions? I look forward to detailed advice, as I value the highest possible professional quality.

I would say: First, make the cable connections using connectors to allow easy replacement of the modules later on. Use LED strips with 12V or 24V, not directly 230V. Cable ducts on the inside of the cabinet help to organize the wiring neatly.

For systematic planning: When working with IKEA Metod, it is important to consider the chosen cabinet depths and widths, as these affect the installation of LED strips or spotlights. For power supply, I always recommend a 12V power adapter, as it enhances safety, especially in damp kitchen environments. The wiring should preferably be routed along the cabinet back panels or side panels using cable channels, some of which are offered by IKEA themselves. Important: Check in advance whether the power adapters used are dimmable, if dimming is desired. For installation, I recommend securing the LED modules with small clips or screws to prevent them from shifting. Proper positioning is also crucial to ensure even lighting, ideally underneath the wall cabinets and inside on the side panels.

Here is a brief guide to make things easier:
- Planning: First, measure the cabinet dimensions and decide where the LEDs will be placed.
- Lighting selection: Flexible LED strips that can be cut precisely are recommended.
- Wiring: Make sure to leave openings for cables in the back panels of the cabinets, or carefully drill holes in the appropriate spots.
- Attachment: Use adhesive tape or clips to install the LEDs neatly.
- Power source: A power supply should always be installed on the outside of the cabinet, accessible but discreetly hidden.
- Safety: All cables must be properly insulated, especially with metal cabinets.
Common mistakes I often see: placing LEDs too close to door hinges, which risks cable breakage.

If you want to keep it really simple: IKEA sometimes offers suitable lighting sets from third-party providers for Metod that fit the cabinets perfectly. The power supplies and plugs are matched accordingly. Otherwise, you need to do the wiring yourself, as described.

That sounds reasonable. How many amps should such a power adapter provide at minimum to cover a complete kitchen? I don’t want to underspecify it but also avoid buying unnecessarily high capacity. And are there any differences in the dimmable power adapters regarding the IKEA Metod and LED combinations?
