Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the installation of my new IKEA Metod kitchen, which will include built-in appliances such as an oven, dishwasher, and cooktop. However, I am unsure about the correct procedure for assembling the cabinets when these appliances are already integrated or prepared for installation.

Specifically, I am interested in the following points:
- Are there any special steps or precautions to consider when assembling Metod cabinets with built-in appliances?
- How can I ensure that the electronics and connections of the appliances are not damaged during installation?
- What should I keep in mind when installing appliances that are fitted during the assembly, compared to a typical cabinet installation without appliances?

I would really appreciate tips and experiences that can help me proceed as efficiently and safely as possible, without having to make many adjustments later on.

Thank you in advance!

Hello Suruken,

Regarding the assembly of the Metod cabinet systems with built-in electrical appliances, I recommend following this structured approach:

- Preparation: Check all components and appliances in advance for any damage. Pay special attention to the interfaces for power cables and water connections.
- Assembly base: First, fully assemble the base cabinet before inserting the appliance. This prevents pressure or damage to sensitive parts.
- Connection preparation: Route cables and water pipes before the appliance is finally installed. Use the designated cutouts and openings for this.
- Inserting appliances: For ovens or dishwashers, it is advisable to install them only once the related connections are already prepared or at least planned.
- Fixation: Ensure the appliance is properly screwed in and aligned to avoid vibrations or damage during operation.

It is very important to use the appliance’s installation instructions alongside the IKEA assembly manual, as some steps depend specifically on the appliances.

This approach greatly increases the likelihood that everything will be installed correctly and safely.

Hey Suruken,

I totally agree with pikin and would add this: Take your time to completely assemble and disassemble the devices before installation, like a full rehearsal!

It might sound time-consuming, but it’s really helpful because:
- You can immediately see which connectors you have, how the cables run, and where space is tight.
- You can also figure out how easy or difficult it will be to remove the devices later if something doesn’t fit or needs repairing.

A small tip: When mounting the device, if it’s already in place but not all connections are ready yet, don’t fully tighten all the screws—just fix it loosely. This makes adjustments much easier later on. 😎

Good luck, it’s going to be great!

Hello Suruken,

I understand that this topic can feel a bit overwhelming. Especially when electrical and water connections are involved, it’s easy to feel uncertain. I experienced similar challenges when assembling my Metod kitchen for the first time.

What helped me was to work through the instructions step by step and at a relaxed pace, taking short breaks to avoid making mistakes in a hurry.

Here are a few personal tips for working with built-in electrical appliances:
- If possible, get help from someone who has assembled a kitchen before or is at least familiar with electrical appliances.
- Safety first: Always unplug the power cord and, if necessary, turn off the circuit breaker before working on the connections.
- Keep a written record of how you routed the cables before you finalize assembling the cabinets. This makes troubleshooting much easier.

I hope this eases the pressure a bit. If you want, feel free to share how it’s going for you – maybe then we can offer more targeted help.

That’s a good point, thanks! The dishwasher manual I have is actually very detailed, while the one for the cabinet is quite basic. Still, it would be interesting to know whether there are differences in the sequence or in certain assembly parts if the appliance is installed beforehand.

That sounds like a sensible tip that will probably save me a lot of frustration.

Does anyone know if built-in cabinets with electrical appliances need to be adjusted differently (for example, in height or depth) because cables or connections might get in the way? Are there standard dimensions that must be strictly followed?

Hello Suruken,

I would like to add the following regarding your questions:

The IKEA Metod cabinets are designed to provide certain clearances and mounting points for built-in appliances – for example, spacers, cutouts for connections, and fixing holes. This should generally be taken into account during assembly.

- Adjustment: The adjustable feet of the cabinets allow for height compensation of small differences. However, you should ensure that sockets and water connections remain easily accessible and that no cables are pinched.
- Depth: The installation depth is usually standardized. Appliances typically have a depth of 60 cm (24 inches), and the cabinets are designed accordingly. Still, more space may be needed during installation to route cables.
- Sequence: I recommend installing the appliances only when the cabinet is almost complete – after the basic frame but before fitting the front panels. This makes access easier.

In short: Standard dimensions are important, but the flexibility of the Metod units also allows for adjustments.

Additionally, compliance with the safety and operating instructions of the appliance manufacturers has priority.

Hope this helps you further.
