Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to install several IKEA Metod base cabinets with adjustable shelves and would appreciate any tips and advice from experience on the best way to approach this setup. Specifically, I want to make sure that the shelves are installed correctly and securely, especially when adjusting the height multiple times.
I am interested in which tools and aids you would recommend, and exactly how the side panels with the series of holes are used to mount the shelves flexibly and safely. Are there any special tricks for placing the shelves precisely, particularly when the load varies due to kitchen utensils?
I have already read the IKEA instructions, but find them somewhat general and am looking for firsthand experiences that might give me a better understanding.
Thank you in advance!

I understand that the idea of heavily loaded shelves can be a bit nerve-wracking. I felt the same way during my first assembly.
What helped me was securing the cabinets firmly to the walls after inserting and leveling the shelves, and also connecting the furniture units to each other if you place multiple modules side by side. This provides a good sense of stability.
Sometimes it can be useful to fix the shelves in place, for example with small screws or brackets, especially if the construction will bear a lot of weight.
Best of luck with your project!

Great, thanks for all the helpful tips that I have noted down. To summarize, I plan to:
- Align and connect the carcasses precisely
- Insert the shelves into the designated supports, ensuring they fit properly
- Distribute weight evenly on the shelves and check the supports if very heavy items are placed
- Attach the back panels only after assembling the shelves, using finishing nails
- Securely fix the cabinets to the wall using appropriate anchors
If anyone else has additional experience or advice, I’m all ears. I’ll get back to you if I encounter any problems during assembly.
