Hello everyone,
I am currently building a new house and planning to equip the kitchen entirely with Ikea Metod cabinets. Since I have only assembled smaller furniture pieces before, I would like to know the best way to install the Metod cabinets in a new build, especially regarding achieving a straight alignment, ensuring stable attachment to walls and ceiling, and dealing with walls that may not yet be fully plastered or uneven surfaces. Are there any specific tips or tricks to make the installation more efficient and secure? I look forward to your experiences and advice on the best approach.

I can understand that assembling the Metod cabinets can feel a bit overwhelming, especially at the beginning. This is particularly true for new constructions, where everything isn’t quite perfect yet, which can quickly lead to uncertainty or stress.
It might help to set small milestones and avoid trying to complete everything in one day. A good approach is to allow yourself to assemble the cabinets temporarily first and then adjust them carefully at your own pace.
You’ve got this – preparation is key. If you ever feel unsure, don’t hesitate to ask for help; many people here are happy to assist.

The advantage of wooden battens is that you can fasten the cabinets to them using standard wood screws, which simplifies and makes the installation more flexible. Thanks for the tip, that gives me more confidence during installation. I am currently gathering the right materials.
One more question: How do you handle aligning the individual cabinets when hanging several side by side? Do you always use aids like drilling templates, or is aligning with a spirit level and adjusting at the end sufficient? Are there any proven methods for this?
For aligning several Metod cabinets side by side, I recommend the following approach:
- First, create a continuous mounting line on the wall using a spirit level and marking pens.
- Use a laser level if available, as it greatly simplifies precise marking.
- Securely mount the first cabinet group, then place the others immediately next to it and adjust them using the spirit level.
- Insert the connecting screws between the cabinets themselves to join them together and prevent slipping.
This method ensures clean, straight rows and minimizes later issues such as door problems or uneven gaps.
