Hello everyone, I’m planning to install my kitchen using Ikea Metod cabinets, but I have very limited space available. My question is: What is the best way to install Ikea Metod cabinets in a tight space without compromising functionality and stability? Specifically, I have a room width of about 180 cm (70.9 inches) available, but the depth and height are also limited. Additionally, I plan to place several cabinets close together—so without large gaps between them.

I’m especially interested in how to best plan the installation, which cabinet modules are particularly space-saving, and whether modifications or special combinations of elements might be recommended to make the most out of the available space. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to install in such a situation most easily and effectively? Are there particular tools or work steps that help? I want to avoid any parts not fitting afterwards or getting held up by incorrect assembly sequences. Thanks in advance for your help!

Regarding the topic: "How do I assemble Ikea Metod cabinets in limited space?" I recommend the following approach: - Measuring and room assessment: Exact room dimensions (width, height, depth) are essential, also taking into account door and window positions. - Choosing the right cabinet widths: Metod offers standardized widths of 20, 40, 60, and 80 cm (8, 16, 24, and 32 inches). For tight spaces, 20 and 40 cm (8 and 16 inches) wide modules are practical. - Planning the sequence: Assemble cabinets on the floor before installation to save space and reduce assembly errors. - Assembly order: Base cabinets first, then wall cabinets (if planned). - Wall mounting: Since Metod, especially smaller cabinets, can quickly become unstable, securely fix every cabinet unit to the wall. - Use of accessories: Plan baseboards, panels, and covers carefully to avoid gaps or unnecessary space. - Special tools are not absolutely required; a cordless drill with torque control makes the work much easier. - Tip for limited height: Consider leaving out or minimally installing the top panel to create more headroom. In summary: Precise planning before starting, using smaller cabinet sizes, and careful wall mounting are key to a good result in tight spaces.

A few additional tips for assembling Ikea Metod cabinets in tight spaces:

1. Modular Use: Instead of installing large cabinets continuously, plan several smaller units. Advantage: more flexible layout and less space loss due to standard sizes.

2. Assembly Tutorial:
- First, lay all parts on the floor and sort them by cabinet type (frame, back panel, doors, drawers).
- Screw the frames together, but be careful not to overtighten dowels or shift parts, as this is a common mistake.
- Before attaching the cabinets to the wall, align them using a spirit level.
- Especially when connecting multiple cabinets, it is advisable to secure them to each other first to increase stability.

3. Cabinet Heights: If you need to reduce height, cut frames or covers with a fine-toothed saw and use shorter panels to keep everything looking consistent.

4. For storage space, choose interior fittings with adjustable shelf heights to make the most of the capacity despite small dimensions. Some cabinets (e.g., 40cm (16 inches)) offer good surface area for tall containers that larger cabinets do not always accommodate well.

5. Potential Assembly Manual Issues: The Ikea manual often doesn’t take individual space conditions into account. Therefore, plan your steps carefully, don’t just follow the instructions blindly, but build modularly and check the components regularly during the process.

I hope this helps.

I can only support this method. Especially when space is limited, customized adjustments are essential.

Additionally, I recommend checking the straightness of the walls during the measurement process. Many walls are not perfectly straight, which can later cause fit problems, particularly with Metod modules due to their fixed dimensions. In such cases, a slightly elevated installation using spacers can help.

Also important: Some trims can be cut to size, allowing small deviations in the room to be better compensated. This often prevents the need to glue improvised fillers.

Regarding tools: Besides a cordless drill, I also recommend angle connectors for joining the modules to each other and strong wall anchors for mounting. This provides extra stability, especially when multiple cabinets are placed side by side.

Finally, I advise taking enough time for planning and, if uncertain, running multiple iterations of the plan on the PC using the Ikea planner. Every detail matters, especially in limited spaces.
