ᐅ How do I adjust Ikea BESTA doors and drawers to ensure they close smoothly and flush for long-lasting use?

LENREHello everyone,
I recently assembled some IKEA Besta cabinets, but I’m having trouble with the doors and drawers not aligning flush and not closing properly. My question is how to correctly adjust the doors and drawers of the BESTA series so that they close flush permanently and maintain their functionality over a longer period of use. I am especially interested in what adjustment options are available for the hinges and drawer slides, what to pay attention to when making fine adjustments (e.g., warping, hinge tension), and if there are any tips to prevent persistent squeaking or binding. I look forward to your experiences and helpful advice.
Thank you in advance!

I’d be happy to give you a detailed overview of how to optimally adjust the doors and drawers of IKEA BESTA so they work reliably for a long time.
The doors of the BESTA cabinets are equipped with so-called clip hinges, which can be adjusted in two ways:
- Height adjustment: This lets you adjust the vertical position of the door if it hangs too low or too high.
- Lateral adjustment: This moves the door horizontally to align it flush with the cabinet body or adjacent doors.
For the adjustments, it’s best to use a small Phillips screwdriver. It’s important to turn the adjustment screws carefully, making only small changes at a time and checking the effect. If the door is pressing too much against the cabinet body near the bottom, gently turn the lateral adjustment screw inward.
The drawers usually run on roller or sliding rails. Some models also allow lateral adjustment via screws on the tracks. You should check whether the drawers open smoothly without sticking or excessive play.
A tip for long-term function: regularly check and clean the hinges and sliding rails to prevent dirt buildup. Occasional re-adjustment may be necessary since wood can warp slightly due to temperature and humidity changes.
A bit of patience and systematic testing definitely pays off.
If you want, I can also describe how this works specifically for your BESTA model if you provide more details about your door or drawer types.
Best regards!

I really felt uneasy after reading some initial comments about hinges loosening over time, but your tips are gradually giving me more confidence. Maybe it’s normal to have to occasionally "fine-tune" or adjust the BESTA cabinet doors.
LENRE, how have you experienced the materials and workmanship so far? For me, the question of long-term durability is especially important because I want to avoid the doors eventually sagging or becoming unusable.

- Doors: Side-to-side, vertical, and depth adjustment at the hinges.
- Drawers: Side and vertical adjustment screws on the slides.
- For both: Turn screws only in small increments, then test.
- A drop of oil or silicone spray can help prevent squeaking.
That’s all you need.

I’d like to add: When ADJUSTING, it’s worth positioning all doors and drawers roughly first, then fine-tuning afterwards. This way, you avoid constantly twisting and turning.
And if a door sticks, just apply a bit of hinge grease or a suitable lubricant to the moving parts. Then they’ll glide much more smoothly.
If you want, you can also grab a bucket of water and stay relaxed – usually, adjusting isn’t an expensive task, but rather about patience and a delicate touch.
Good luck with the gentle care of your BESTA doors!
