I am currently considering modifying some Ikea Brimnes furniture, specifically cabinets and dressers that I have owned for some time. My question focuses on how challenging these modifications are in practice. Specifically, I am interested in:
- Is it necessary to use specialized tools, or is basic equipment sufficient?
- How difficult is it to disassemble the furniture without causing damage?
- Are there any critical points or common mistakes specific to this series?
- Can a DIY enthusiast with some practical experience handle these modifications well?
I would appreciate hearing about your experiences, as I am planning several options for increased storage and different room layouts. Thanks in advance for any concrete answers and tips!

The screws are designed for one-time installation; repeated tightening and removal will quickly cause wear. This is a crucial point. Anyone who modifies their setup frequently should get spare screws and possibly furniture connectors. Without sturdy fittings, stability deteriorates quickly.

The BRIMNES modules are relatively modular in design, which makes modifications easier if you stick to the intended structure.I agree with that. The design aims to be modular, but significant alterations sometimes require additional reinforcements.

- Disassemble systematically, step by step.
- Store the screws carefully.
- Use a workbench if possible.
This makes the renovation less complicated than you might initially think.

Thanks for the helpful feedback!
I realized that the back panel and the wall plugs are especially critical. I will also look out for replacement screws.
Can anyone tell me if there are official spare parts or fittings from Ikea available directly for BRIMNES? And what are your experiences if you want to reposition or make a cabinet door movable, for example? Is that realistic or too complicated?

Repositioning or making doors movable is feasible but requires modifications to the hinge drillings. The drillings are standardized, but the furniture is not designed for frequent alterations, so proceed carefully.
