ᐅ How compatible are spare parts from other manufacturers with Ikea Brimnes?

Hello everyone, I’m planning to repair my Ikea Brimnes bed or replace some parts and I’m wondering how compatible replacement parts from other manufacturers are with the Brimnes.
Specifically, I’m interested in whether screws, connectors, or fittings from third-party suppliers fit without issues, since I can’t always get all parts immediately from Ikea or the delivery times can be quite long.
Does anyone here have experience whether standard parts can be used without concern, or if there are special dimensions or locking mechanisms that only original Ikea parts meet?
It would also be useful to know if using alternative replacement parts affects the stability or functionality, especially for a bed that has to withstand a lot of stress.
I’m hoping for practical advice or specific recommendations because I’d prefer not to buy parts that later don’t fit or even cause problems.

Hello everyone,
I would like to add that with Ikea Brimnes, the connections between the individual wooden parts are often made using special dowels and screws that are not always standardized.
This makes it difficult to simply use other replacement parts without the connection becoming unstable or loosening.
If you want to use third-party replacement parts, I would advise paying close attention to the exact measurements, especially the thread and diameter of the dowels and screws.
Sometimes it is worth ordering the original parts directly from Ikea, especially when it comes to safety-relevant components.
For simple screws and smaller fasteners, standard parts can occasionally be used.
Important: if incompatible parts are installed, the stability could decrease, causing the bed to wobble or even be damaged.

A small mistake, for example in screw length or diameter, can quickly lead to frustration.
I believe if you can’t guarantee an exact match, it’s better to wait and order original replacement parts, even if the delivery time is annoying.
To stir things up a bit: I think Ikea’s spare parts policy almost forces you to rely on third-party suppliers, no matter how specialized the parts are.
One could argue that Ikea designs the system so original parts are essential – essentially forcing you to buy the more expensive components.
With some technical skill, many parts can be adapted or even recreated. Of course, that’s not for everyone, but honestly: aren’t we all a bit inventive when it comes to our beds?
So yes, 100% genuine compatibility is rare, but with creativity and a bit of DIY, you can achieve a lot. Those who rely solely on original parts may end up paying more than necessary.
