Hello everyone, I am currently planning to create a walk-in closet in my apartment and am considering using the Ikea PAX system as the main element. My question is: How can the Ikea PAX be best integrated as part of a walk-in closet to maximize storage space and flexibility without the solution appearing too bulky? It is important to me that both hanging sections and shelving are combined effectively and that the interior layout is adjustable. Are there any experiences with modifications, extendable fittings, or tips for the perfect room layout around the PAX wardrobes? Maybe also suggestions for lighting or optimal access? I appreciate any ideas and feedback!

Lighting along the cabinets or integrated into the PAX units, ideally LED strips that operate automatically with motion sensorsThe approach with motion sensors makes sense, but I wonder if the wiring might become complicated. Has anyone here already gained practical experience with simple DIY solutions, or is professional help advisable?

These can be installed with minimal effort and are often compatible with motion sensors. Of course, a fixed installation offers advantages for long-term use and aesthetics, but it requires more installation effort.

If you use PAX with standard sizes, you can often consolidate the power supply in one cabinet and then run the cables from there to the LED strips. It’s important to be clear in advance about where power outlets are or can be installed.
Alternatively, Ikea also offers integrated LED lighting as an option for PAX. These are easy to clip in but require a power connection nearby. For custom builds, you can also buy motion sensors with remote controls that can be mounted flexibly. The prerequisite is that there is space for cables and connections or that such space can be created.
An addition regarding the room layout: If possible, you should plan for a free wall with a mirror between the longer PAX wardrobes. This makes daily outfit selection easier and looks very professional. If space is limited, full-length mirrored doors as PAX fronts are also suitable.
