Hello everyone,
I have an Ikea Brimnes wardrobe at home that unfortunately makes quite a bit of noise when opening or closing the doors. I am particularly interested in how to reduce this noise without making major changes to the furniture itself.
I suspect that the hinges or the drawer runners are mainly responsible for the noise. Does anyone have practical tips or proven methods for improving the noise level of the Brimnes wardrobe?
It would also be helpful to know if certain maintenance products or minor technical modifications are effective and what experiences other users have had.
Thanks in advance for your constructive advice!

Hello Relau,
regarding your issue: The Ikea Brimnes is a case furniture piece with fairly simple hinges and drawer runners. The squeaking or rattling often comes from friction or loose parts.
Here are a few tips I can recommend:
- You can spray the hinges with some high-quality silicone spray or Teflon spray. Mineral oil–based oils can attract dirt, which can cause more harm in the long run.
- If the noise comes from the drawer slides, cleaning them with a cloth and applying a bit of lubricant there often helps.
- Check that all screws are tight, as loose fasteners often cause additional noise.
- Some users place small felt or foam strips on impact points, for example on the door frames, which noticeably dampens the slamming sound.
I hope this helps for now. If you like, feel free to share what you have tried, so we can offer more targeted alternative tips.

I put felt pads exactly where the door meets the frame on my Brimnes wardrobe – a super simple solution that really reduces the loud “slam” sound 🤫. I also always make sure not to over-lubricate the hinges, using only as much lubricant as necessary. Otherwise, it gets more greasy than quiet.
One more tip from me: if you enjoy DIY, you can also stick small self-adhesive damping pads to the back of the doors. That also helps a lot with noise reduction.

I suspect that the hinges or the drawer runners are the main source of noise. That’s a good assessment. Especially with IKEA furniture like the Brimnes, the drawer runners are often responsible for noise. I would recommend:
- Completely removing the drawer slides to clean and maintain them thoroughly.
- Using sprayable silicone lubricants, as these don’t stick and don’t attract dirt.
- Checking if the rollers or guides are damaged or bent, as this reduces smooth operation.
- If the hinges are new, consider switching to soft-close hinges—these are not standard with IKEA, but can be retrofitted and significantly improve comfort.
I would also suggest reviewing the assembly instructions to rule out any installation errors, since incorrectly installed doors and drawers can cause unnecessary noise.
