Hello everyone, I have been experiencing an issue for some time now where the drawers of my Malm dresser no longer slide as smoothly as they did at first. They feel somewhat stiff, and it requires noticeably more effort to open and close them compared to before. I have already pulled out the drawers and roughly cleaned the slides, but the result was only moderate. My specific question is: What options are there to make Malm drawers slide more easily without having to replace the entire slide mechanism? Are there any special lubricants or tricks you would recommend? I want to avoid the drawers squeaking or getting dirty in the future. Thanks in advance for your tips!

I completely removed the running rails, cleaned them with a cloth and some dish soap, and then wiped them dry.

That is basically correct, but be careful not to use too much liquid! Wooden furniture is sensitive to moisture. It is important that nothing gets inside the roller bearings or similar parts, as this can cause rust or damage.

I think it’s great that we’re sharing such helpful tips here! 😃 I would also suggest fully disassembling the drawers and tracks after cleaning to check for bent parts or damaged rollers. Sometimes the cause is wear and tear on the materials. If you catch it early, you can still make a big difference with just small replacement parts.

In summary: pull out the drawers, carefully clean the slides, check for any damage, and lubricate them if necessary with silicone spray or graphite powder. Replace any worn parts if needed. This should make the Malm drawer slide smoothly again.
