Hello everyone, I recently assembled an Ikea Hemnes wardrobe and noticed that the doors seem slightly warped or don’t fit quite right. My question is: How can the Ikea Hemnes wardrobe doors be easily and effectively adjusted so they close flush without gaps or misalignment? Are there specific adjustment options on the hinges or any tricks to fix this with minimal effort? I would appreciate any tips or experiences regarding the exact procedure.

Hi! Luckily, the hinges on Hemnes wardrobes are quite easy to adjust. If you lift the door, you will usually find a small screw on the back of the hinge that allows vertical adjustment. You can also align the doors slightly to the right or left.

It’s important to be patient and make very small adjustments to avoid overcorrecting. And yes, a bit of feeling when adjusting makes it easier. Don’t worry, with a little fine-tuning it’s totally manageable! 👍

The following sequence helps: first adjust the height using the screw at the back of the hinge, then correct the distance to the side wall using the screw on the side. Finally, use the screw at the front to tension the door. This usually results in a perfect fit.

That sums it up very well. Additionally, it’s important to always close the door while adjusting and check that it fits smoothly and without pressure. The hinges on the Hemnes model are actually quite high quality and allow precise adjustment on three axes. If the doors still stick, it might be due to slightly warped wooden parts that have changed shape slightly because of humidity. Lightly trimming the door edge or checking the mounting screws on the cabinet body can also help in such cases.

I think it is important not only to talk about the screws but also to question why the doors might not fit properly. Material deformation, improper installation, or uneven surfaces can be the cause. Just adjusting the hinge is sometimes only a temporary fix for a deeper problem. I would prefer to check the entire structure for levelness before working on the hinges.

Good addition by enrique7. Here is a brief guide on how to check and adjust the Hemnes doors:

- Remove the door: The Hemnes doors can be easily taken off by lifting them upwards.
- Check: See if the door itself is warped or if the cabinet frame is misaligned.
- Adjust: Use the three screws on the Hemnes hinges:
- Vertical screw (at the back of the hinge): raises or lowers the door.
- Lateral screw (on the side of the hinge): shifts the door left or right.
- Front screw (at the front of the hinge): adjusts the pressure or gap to the cabinet front.
- After each adjustment, check if the doors close more smoothly and if the gaps are even.

Common mistakes:
- Making too large adjustments at once.
- Ignoring the screw adjustment sequence.
- Failing to check if the base is level.

This way, you can fine-tune step by step and achieve the best result.
