Hello everyone, I am planning to customize the color of an Ikea Pax wardrobe because the standard white is a bit too plain for me, and I would like to create something more personal. I am interested in what options are available to alter the surfaces of the doors or carcasses without compromising the material quality or making the wardrobe unusable. This includes painting, applying adhesive films, or other techniques. It is also important for me to know whether this can be done by myself without special workshop equipment and which materials are truly suitable. Does anyone have experience with custom color modifications on Pax wardrobe components, especially with lacquered or foil-coated surfaces? What about adhesion, durability, and appearance? I would appreciate specific tips, product recommendations, or methods. Thanks in advance!
Great topic! I painted my entire Pax wardrobe in a matte anthracite – it looks really amazing! It's really important to allow plenty of time for sanding and priming. A tip from me: for extra durability, apply a clear sealant after painting. This way, the wardrobe is better protected against scratches over time. It’s really enjoyable to do something like this yourself!

Many people make the mistake of not sanding the surface, then complain that the paint peels off.Thank you for this important detail! I hadn’t realized that sanding is so crucial. Can anyone share insights on the durability of furniture foil? Compared to painting, it initially seems less labor-intensive, but how well does the foil actually hold up in everyday use? Would it also allow for quick color changes without leaving significant residues?

Compared to painting, it initially seems less labor-intensive, but how well does the film actually hold up in daily use?Furniture film can last several years when applied correctly, but it is less resistant to sharp scratches or heavy wear on edges compared to painted surfaces. A major advantage is the easy removal and quick color change without damaging the underlying surface. However, the film may start to lift at corners and edges over time, especially with frequent use or exposure to heat. Therefore, films should only be used on doors or surfaces with high contact if applied carefully on smooth substrates.
