Hello everyone,

I have had an Ikea Pax system at home for a while, but now I want to improve the quality of the doors because I noticed they are quite prone to damage or warping due to moisture.

That’s why I’m asking the community: How can the quality of Ikea Pax doors be improved?

I’m not just referring to practical tips for maintenance or installation, but especially concrete solutions such as better materials, reinforcements, alternative fittings, or other improvements. What experiences or recommendations do you have to make the doors more durable and stable?

Thanks in advance for your tips and opinions!

A reinforced, modular system with interchangeable door panels and customization options would make more sense than the current basic setup, which is actually more prone to damage than durable.

You raise an important point. The modular system, like the one Ikea offers with Pax, has many advantages—especially in terms of flexibility. However, it often comes down to a trade-off between cost and durability.

I have personally tried reinforcing individual door profiles and even backing the panels with plywood to prevent warping. This is not practical for everyone, of course, but it shows that with some craftsmanship, a lot can be achieved.

I’m curious how others here deal with modifications. Does anyone rely on retrofit solutions or special maintenance approaches despite using standard materials? What experiences do you have with alternative products inside or outside of Ikea?

Wow, there is really a lot to this topic!

I think it’s great that you’re discussing such technical and detailed approaches. For me, the most important tip was to use Blum hinges – the doors operate much more smoothly and feel higher quality!

In addition, I applied a matte varnish to my doors myself to make the surface more durable. It even improved the appearance!

So keep at it, everyone! It’s definitely worth investing a little time and effort to make the Pax doors more durable and attractive!!!
