Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an IKEA Brimnes bed and am now facing the challenge of properly attaching the back panel. In my opinion, the instructions are not very clear, especially when it comes to securing the back panel to the side parts.

I would like to know how you correctly install the Brimnes back panel so that it sits firmly without gaps or looseness. Are there specific screws or wall plugs that should be used, or any tips on tightening?

Also, I am curious if the back panel can be easily removed and reattached later without compromising stability.

I appreciate any advice, as I want to assemble the bed not only quickly but also securely and for the long term.

Thanks in advance!

Hello san35,

I completely understand your concerns. The back panel of the Brimnes bed is usually fastened with the small screws provided, which are screwed into the pre-drilled holes on the side panels. It’s important to tighten these screws evenly to ensure a stable connection without gaps.

I recommend using a cordless drill with low torque to avoid damaging the material. Some users suggest applying small drops of wood glue at the joints if the panel feels loose, but this isn’t necessary if the back panel fits firmly.

Regarding disassembly: yes, you can easily remove and reattach the back panel. However, it’s advisable not to undo the screws too often, as the material may wear out over time.

If you’re missing screws or still unsure, just ask—I’m happy to help!

Hello san35!

Great question, I’m very familiar with this issue! 🙂
It’s really important to use clean and straight screws for attaching the Brimnes back panel; the original ones work best for me.

- First, check that all the drill holes fit well
- Then align the back panel in the center
- Screw in evenly and carefully

If the back panel doesn’t sit flush, you can also place small strips of cardboard behind it to avoid gaps – that helped me a lot!

Keep at it, it will turn out great! If you have any questions, just ask 🙂

I recommend using the supplied screws and tightening them evenly with the appropriate screwdriver. Anchors are not necessary.

Yes, no problem, but avoid loosening it too often, as this may loosen the material.

That's a really good tip! Sometimes the workpieces are slightly warped, and small shims can quickly help.

Dowels are not necessary
I agree, dowels are usually not needed for IKEA furniture since the design relies on wood connectors.

A small addition: Check the outer edges of the back panel for any damage or warping – these can cause issues during assembly and lead to looseness.

If your back panel still wobbles, you might consider using thin felt tape to reduce vibrations.
