Hello everyone, I have a somewhat more specific question for the community: How can Malm furniture—especially dressers and wardrobes from this series—be effectively and safely protected during transport, whether moving them within an apartment or relocating to a new home?

I am particularly interested in tips on the best padding materials, proper handling when loading, and how to protect delicate surfaces and edges to avoid damage such as scratches, dents, or even breaks.

The reason is that I will be moving soon and want to avoid damaging these fairly delicate pieces of furniture. I would really appreciate well-informed advice or personal experiences that could help.

Stretch film does hold everything together, but one should also consider that it reduces the breathability of all materials used.

Interesting point, but especially with Malm furniture, which isn’t solid wood, you could almost say: better some moisture than a dent!

I think people are sometimes overly cautious. If you cushion the furniture well and handle the film correctly, it offers very effective protection against external impacts.

If someone doesn’t care about scratches and dents, they can transport the furniture without any covering, but personally, I prefer both protection and securing it, just to be safe. 😉

I do not agree that more protection is automatically better.

MALM furniture is quite delicate, but it is also not exactly cheap to replace. However, do not overwhelm it with excessive packaging waste that only increases effort and generates more trash.

For me, the important points are:

- proper disassembly
- targeted protection on the edges
- appropriate securing

That is sufficient. Overprotection can actually have the opposite effect, as the furniture may be handled poorly and experience more movement during transport.

For protection during the transport of MALM furniture, furniture blankets and foam edge protectors are recommended.

The furniture should be kept upright and secured to prevent shifting.

Stretch wrap is good for securing items, but not sufficient as the sole protection against impacts.

In addition to the previous details, I would like to add the following:

- Check before transport that all screws are properly tightened; loosely fitted parts increase the risk of damage.
- Avoid placing heavy objects on or inside the furniture to prevent deformation.
- Use sturdy moving boxes for small parts whenever possible.
- When padding, ensure that no pressure marks are caused by sharp edges.

The overall approach of careful disassembly, proper padding, securing, and gentle handling is crucial.
