Hello everyone,

I have an IKEA Malm chest of drawers that often slips, especially on my smooth laminate flooring. As a result, the drawers sometimes open by themselves or the chest tips slightly when pulling out the drawers. Therefore, I am looking for effective and practical methods to secure a Malm chest of drawers against sliding.

It is important to me that the solution provides long-lasting stability, not just a short-term fix, without damaging the floor or the chest. Does anyone know good ideas or proven techniques to firmly fix Malm chests of drawers? Whether mounting hardware, special adhesive pads, or mounting rails—I appreciate any advice that really works.

Hello,

I would recommend using a combination of anti-slip pads under the dresser and additional wall anchors. The pads provide friction, while the wall anchors completely prevent tipping and shifting. This way, the dresser is securely fixed.

Good morning! Here is a structured overview:

1. Wall Attachment: The Malm dresser from IKEA typically comes with a bracket for wall mounting. You should definitely install this to prevent tipping and movement. Sometimes this step is overlooked, but it is crucial.

2. Grip Pads/Non-Slip Mats: Special rubber pads placed under the dresser’s feet increase friction on smooth floors. You can choose felt pads with rubber backing or pure rubber pads. This makes sliding more difficult but does not completely prevent it.

3. Floor Fixing: If you prefer not to drill into the floor, adhesive solutions are available—such as floor tape with very strong adhesion or double-sided adhesive pads. These options are practical but may leave marks.

4. Heavy-Duty Furniture Stoppers: There are specific stoppers that can be attached underneath the furniture and anchored to the floor. If you want extreme stability, these solutions are an option.

Summary: The best security comes from combining wall mounting with non-slip pads. Avoid fixing the dresser directly to the floor with adhesives, as this can damage laminate flooring.

If you like, I can also recommend sources for suitable products.

The safest option is a combination of wall anchors and anti-slip pads.

I can absolutely confirm that. I’ve experienced the problem myself because my daughter often pulls on the dresser, causing it to move. The wall anchors made a huge difference for us – I was genuinely surprised how much more stable the entire piece of furniture became.

Sometimes people hesitate because of drilling holes in the wall, but it’s quick to do and not only prevents shifting but especially tipping over, which is very important with children.

If anyone is unsure how to do it properly, I’m happy to share a brief guide or tips on how to do it safely and with minimal effort. Especially when children are involved, this safety measure really gives peace of mind 🙂
