Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my Malm drawers from Ikea. One of the drawers no longer slides out smoothly; it sticks and doesn’t move easily. It also seems like the rail might be bent or the mechanism damaged. My question is: How can I repair Malm drawers? Which parts should I check specifically, and are there any tips on how to make the drawers run smoothly and stay stable again without having to replace them completely?

Thanks in advance for your experience and advice!

A simple test: Remove the drawer and carefully check the runners on the sides to see if they are straight. If not, gently straighten them with pliers.

Then use silicone spray sparingly, not too much. Slide the drawer back in and test it.

Do not overtighten the screws, or they may get damaged.

I completely understand how frustrating a sticking Malm drawer can be. It happened to me recently as well, and I was really annoyed because I didn’t immediately understand the mechanism.

The good news is that, with a bit of patience, these issues can usually be fixed. All the tips shared here are very helpful.

What I found especially important was taking the time to check everything step by step, while being realistic that some problems are simply signs of wear and tear that don’t go away right away.

A little encouragement for everyone: don’t get discouraged or pull the drawer out forcefully! Successfully repairing it gives a great sense of achievement 🙂

Hello everyone,

I would like to add some basic steps that may help when repairing MALM drawers:

1. First, completely remove the drawer.
2. Thoroughly dust and clean all the drawer slides.
3. Check the condition of the mounting screws – tighten any loose screws.
4. Inspect whether the guide rollers are intact and roll freely.
5. If a slide is damaged or bent, carefully readjust it with pliers.
6. Finally, treat the drawer slides with silicone spray to restore smooth movement.

If the problem persists despite all these measures, it’s worth checking for replacement parts at Ikea, as slides and rollers are usually available separately and can be easily swapped out.

Good luck with your repair!
