Hello everyone, I’m planning to use the Ikea Platsa system specifically as a shoe rack and want to store as many shoes as possible in an organized and practical way. I’m particularly interested in how to configure the Platsa optimally, so that it not only provides a lot of storage space but also keeps the shoes easily accessible. Maybe you have tips on useful interior fittings like shelves, drawers, or shoe holders that work well for this purpose. What dimensions and arrangements work best for storing sneakers, boots, and shoes effectively? I look forward to your experiences and recommendations on using the Platsa as a smart and user-friendly shoe rack.

I also think it makes sense not to make the compartments too deep so that the shoes remain easy to access. That makes sense to me; the standard depth of Platsa is 35cm (14 inches), which should work well. Does anyone here have experience with these Ikea inserts for shoes — like the VARIERA drawers or similar?
I’m also curious whether you prefer to design the PLATSA units all the way up to the ceiling or if you rather use a combination of shorter modules to create a more open feel?
I can easily relate to how challenging it can be to fit everything in neatly. Shoe racks, in particular, often become quite chaotic. I experimented with my PLATSA and found that using smaller modules was more comfortable because the look isn’t overwhelming and it’s easier to keep things organized.
In the end, I also found it helpful to occasionally leave some space free for seasonal shoes. This allowed me to be more flexible with the shelves and avoided the need for constant rearranging.

The drawers are sturdy and allow you to store shoes neatly without them slipping around. However, they are not suitable for tall boots. Another advantage is that the drawers can be stacked multiple times, which helps keep things organized.
Additionally, PLATSA works well with the FIGUR insert system — small baskets and boxes that can be used flexibly and provide ventilation.
