Hello everyone, I would like to start a discussion on the topic "How can Ikea Platsa be modified for custom interior design?" I am using the system as a base, but often find the pre-made modules not ideal for my needs—the appearance and functionality should better match my personal requirements. I am especially interested in options such as cutting, adding extra material, or structural modifications to make Platsa more flexible, including for unusual room layouts. Are there any experiences, tips, or DIY ideas on how to best modify or extend the system without having to rebuild everything from scratch? I look forward to many suggestions and also welcome critical assessments.

Platsa can be easily customized by adding inserts such as shelves or drawers. Installing furniture corner protectors for added protection and stability is also recommended.

The Platsa system features a modular construction that allows the use of standardized components. For individual customization, I recommend:

- Cutting the back panels to specific dimensions
- Adding external fronts made of MDF or wood for a different appearance
- Using mounting rails or plug-in systems to combine modules flexibly
- Integrating lighting elements into the units

These measures enable customization without compromising the load-bearing capacity or stability of the system.

I love Platsa because it’s so versatile! 🙂 I covered my modules with colored films and replaced some doors with fabric panels – it looks super unique and is really fun to reconfigure! Don’t let standard dimensions hold you back; being creative is totally worth it!

Let's be honest: Anyone who uses Platsa simply as a modular system is missing out on its full potential. The system practically calls for a complete redesign. Why not take the parts apart, trim new materials, and recombine them? The fear of losing the warranty or structural integrity holds many back. Personally, I believe the real transformation begins only when you push beyond existing limits.

Thanks for the input so far! @andre3, your details about mounting rails and lighting are very helpful. I’m curious how you handle the back panels – have you replaced or modified them yourselves, or do they usually remain unchanged? And @NOAHSAU, your suggestion for a radical redesign is intriguing, but is it possible to implement all those changes without professional tools?
