Hello everyone, I’m currently looking into the best way to use the Ikea PAX system for storing winter clothing. I’m particularly interested in which combinations of clothes rails, shelves, and drawers work well to store coats, thick sweaters, scarves, and hats efficiently and in a space-saving way. I want to avoid the items getting wrinkled or being too heavy in the drawers. Are there any proven tips for organizing and possibly protecting the clothes (for example, with special hanging shelves or by using vacuum bags)? I’m looking forward to your ideas and experiences on how to make the most of the PAX system for seasonal storage of winter clothes.
I can understand how paperwork in a drawer with small accessories can quickly become overwhelming. As a temporary solution, I used various small fabric baskets that I swap out depending on the season. This also helps me relax a bit and not have to sort every little item individually.
There are also affordable clip-on organizers that you can attach to the inside of doors. For scarves and hats, this can be a space-saving alternative.

Brief summary:
- Hang coats on the topmost clothes rail
- Store sweaters on sturdy shelves or in drawers
- Keep scarves and hats in small drawer dividers or boxes
- Use vacuum bags only for durable clothing
This works well; wool items can lose quality if vacuum bags are packed too tightly.

At a height of 236 cm (7 ft 9 in), it usually makes more sense to install a long rail at the top for coats and possibly add a different unit below (for example, with shelves and drawers). That was exactly the information I needed – I will plan it that way! Thanks to everyone for the helpful tips, especially regarding the proper storage of sweaters and accessories. I will get started and may get back if I run into any problems or have new ideas.
