Hello everyone,
I would like to start a discussion on how to effectively use the Ikea PAX system for storing sports equipment. I am especially interested in flexible solutions to organize various sports items, whether yoga mats, dumbbells, tennis or soccer gear, in a neat and space-saving way inside a PAX wardrobe. Ideally, also with tips for organizing smaller accessories like balls, bands, or gloves.
How have you personally configured or modified your PAX to ensure optimal sports equipment storage? Are there particular shelves, boxes, or holders that have proven especially useful?
I am very much looking forward to your experiences and suggestions!

What does your space look like? Is the wardrobe built into a recess or free standing?Thank you for the detailed response! My PAX wardrobe stands free in the living room, 150 cm (59 inches) wide, 58 cm (23 inches) deep, and about 236 cm (93 inches) high. I have various items:
- 2 yoga mats
- A pair of dumbbells (5 kg / 11 lbs)
- Resistance bands
- Jump rope
- Soccer ball
- Bicycle helmet
- Training shoes
I’m mainly interested in tips for sturdy mounts and organizing the space so it doesn’t look cluttered. Do you have recommendations for practical modular boxes or advice on whether the inside of the doors can be effectively used for storage?
I often find such solutions overrated. Why go through the effort of using a PAX system when you can access everything much faster with simple open grids or shelves? A PAX quickly becomes a dust trap, especially with sports equipment, which is often dirty. In that case, open storage is much more practical.

Sport equipment often comes in various sizes, so PAX fits perfectly. Anyone who values organization should definitely give it a try!

And your point about dust is certainly valid, but with closed doors you only need to dust occasionally. For me, the benefits of order and aesthetics clearly outweigh that.
Don’t stress about it, everyone has their own preferences! 😊
