lelepoHello everyone,
I’d like to start a discussion with the question: How can Ikea Pax be optimally used or even improved for storing office supplies?
I have looked at the system and find it generally flexible and sturdy, but especially for office supplies—such as documents, pens, cables, small devices, or even bulkier items like binders and printer paper—the interior layout still needs some fine-tuning.
I’m particularly interested in which interior fittings (drawers, inserts, dividers, boxes) work best inside. Are there useful modifications or additions that not only optimize the available storage space but also make daily use easier?
Maybe you have personal experiences on how to adapt the typical Pax setup for a neat, efficient office without relying heavily on third-party accessories?
I look forward to your suggestions, specific approaches, or practical examples.

your topic is very interesting because Pax is actually a wardrobe system, so the manufacturers did not specifically design it for office supplies. However, you can still get a lot out of it:
- Drawer inserts with compartments are great for pens, small items, and accessories.
- Shallow boxes or sorting inserts for documents and ring binders help organize the storage space efficiently.
- Combined with adjustable shelves, you can use different heights – very important for binders and, for example, printer paper.
- One idea is to place a mobile pedestal in the lower part of the Pax if needed, and install shelves with shallow plastic boxes or protective sleeves above it.
However, you need to consider the depth of the Pax, as some elements are more designed for pants hangers. It’s worth measuring the dimensions precisely and choosing suitable shelf dividers or boxes.
If you want, I can also provide recommendations on what to consider when purchasing additional interior fittings, specifically for office supplies.

To optimize the Ikea Pax system for office supplies, I recommend the following approach:
- First, measure the exact dimensions of the items to be stored, especially the width, depth, and height of folders and devices.
- Using customizable drawer inserts (including adjustable dividers) provides better organization for smaller office items.
- The modular shelves can be divided vertically, allowing space for printers and file folders on one side, while leaving room for smaller boxes.
- It is also advisable to integrate pull-out levels to facilitate access to frequently used items.
- For cable management, cable grommets or clips can be incorporated.
The standard Pax components can be easily adapted for office supplies if the focus is on functional partitioning. I only recommend third-party accessories where there are genuine gaps.

Hey everyone!
I’ve reorganized my Pax wardrobe in my home office to get a really clear overview! What I especially like:
- Acrylic drawer boxes that you can label perfectly 😍
- Pull-out trays where pens and paper clips are nicely organized
- I adjusted the height of the shelves so my binders fit – a huge space saver!
You can really get so much out of it if you’re willing to spend a bit of time planning.
It’s really fun when everything is within reach and you don’t have to search for anything!
Does anyone have tips or cool hacks for cable management in a Pax? I’d love a clean solution for that.

Flexible cable conduits can also be securely attached to bundle the wires.
Adding small clips or cable ties on the inside of the back panel helps improve cable holding without affecting the furniture’s appearance.
Additionally, opting for wireless devices wherever possible can help reduce overall cable clutter.
