Hello everyone,
I am looking for effective ways to temporarily repair IKEA Hemnes furniture. Specifically, it concerns minor damages such as loose screws, worn edges, or small cracks in wooden parts. The furniture should remain as stable as possible until I can carry out a permanent repair or replacement.
Does anyone have practical tips for quick fixes that require minimal tools or special materials? Any advice on specific adhesives or techniques suitable for the Hemnes series would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Adhesives like Ponal are great for fixing cracked areas.Exactly, I also suspect Ponal. Does the Hemnes material require something special, or is a regular all-purpose adhesive sufficient?
Also, what is the best approach for multi-part joints that are a bit loose? Would reinforcement with metal brackets help, or is it better to use wooden dowels?
Be careful when tightening the screws: if the material has already swollen slightly, it can break more easily. In that case, it is better to remove any excess wood glue and press the parts together, then clamp them with screws and let them dry – afterwards, tighten the screws carefully again.
Exciting discussion here! 🙂 For my Hemnes desk, I treated the edges with a simple paint pen in a matching color, which effectively conceals worn spots until a permanent repair can be done.
And if it wobbles, a few small wooden strips inside the structure help – this adds stability without much effort!
