Hello everyone, I have some furniture from the Ikea Hemnes series that I regularly want to clean without damaging the surface or changing the color. I understand that these pieces are usually made of lacquered or waxed pine wood, which requires special care. My specific question is: What is the most effective way to clean Hemnes furniture when removing dust, stains, or even dried residues like food particles or drink stains, without harming the surface? Are there any proven home remedies or special cleaning products recommended for this furniture series? I would greatly appreciate tips that protect the materials while thoroughly cleaning the furniture.

A tip from me: For everyday dust, a dry microfiber cloth is sufficient. For light dirt, use lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap. Always dry the surface afterward! Never use steel wool or harsh cleaners.

The best approach is always to test first on an inconspicuous spot, that way nothing can go wrong!

That’s valuable advice, thank you! My furniture is lacquered rather than waxed. There are a few areas that look slightly stained, probably from coffee or other liquids. Would it make sense to treat those spots first with just water, and then follow up with diluted soapy water? What is the best method to deal with crusted-on residues? I look forward to any suggestions!

I would start by trying warm water and a soft, non-abrasive cloth. If that’s not enough, then very gently use a drop of mild dish soap. For more stubborn crusts, you can place a soft cloth soaked in warm water on the area for a few minutes – this often helps to loosen the material without scratching the paint! Make sure to test this on a hidden spot first. And remember to always dry the area thoroughly afterwards!

To conclude, here are a few tips for the long-term care of Hemnes furniture: After cleaning, it is advisable to polish the furniture with a soft, dry cloth to achieve a high-gloss finish. Use a suitable wood protector or care product that matches the type of finish. Regular dusting helps prevent dirt and stains from settling. If you have pets, be careful that their claws do not damage the surfaces.

One last question for you: Do you use the furniture in high-traffic areas such as the kitchen or dining room? This could further influence the cleaning method.
