Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into how to effectively use the IKEA Hemnes furniture system for a home office. Especially since many of us work from home either permanently or at least occasionally, setting up an efficient workspace is more important than ever.

I am particularly interested in:

- Which combinations of the Hemnes range (desks, shelving units, storage solutions) support good ergonomics and storage in a home office.
- How to best adapt the furniture to small or unconventional spaces.
- Tips for organization and cable management using Hemnes furniture.

Looking forward to your experiences and creative ideas on using Hemnes in a home office context!

Hi Dursun,

I find the Hemnes system very flexible! Especially the secretary desk from the Hemnes range is a real all-rounder for a home office. It features a stylish drop-down front that you can fold down to work on, and it completely closes up after work – basically, work out of sight, stress out of mind. 😎

For cable management, I use small cable boxes under the desk, which you can easily attach to the side panels. The shelves are great for storing folders and tech equipment but don’t take up much space.

If you need more room, combine the Hemnes desktop with additional shelves as a room divider – it looks stylish and creates a nice structure.

Use the Hemnes desk together with the matching shelves as a quick solution. Save space with large surfaces, keeping everything within easy reach. Cable ties help manage cable clutter.

Hello Dursun,

To use the Hemnes range effectively in a home office, I recommend the following approach:

- Start with the Hemnes desk, which offers a sturdy construction and an ergonomic height of 73cm (29 inches).
- Add shelves from the Hemnes series; the wider models with adjustable shelves are ideal for flexible storage.
- For a small office: hanging drawers or boxes under the desk help keep things organized.
- For cable management, cable channels that can be attached to the back of the desktop work well.

Avoid shelves that are too deep, as they can quickly clutter the space. Overall, the principle is: clear lines and open space encourage productivity.

Cable ducts that can be mounted on the back of the desktop are suitable for cable management.

That's right, and if you want to keep things really tidy: attach a power strip to the side of the Hemnes shelf unit, it’s easier to reach than under the desk.

Another tip: using colorful folders in the Hemnes shelf unit adds a bit of cheer – you can be productive and vibrant at the same time! 😉

For using the Hemnes furniture system in a home office, the following points can also be considered:

- The wood material is sturdy and durable, ideal for daily use.
- Standard dimensions: desk height approximately 73cm (29 inches), tabletop about 118 x 50cm (46 x 20 inches), sufficient for a laptop/monitor with some workspace.
- Compatible with mobile pedestals and storage boxes that can be slid underneath, allowing optimal use of space.
- Cable management can be achieved through pre-drilled holes in the tabletop or by adding cable grommets afterwards.

A practical planning approach, tailored to the actual room size and work equipment, significantly improves efficiency and ergonomics.
