Hello everyone, I have a question that has been on my mind for a while: How can an IKEA Hemnes wardrobe be secured and reinforced so that it remains stable even under heavier use—such as when it holds a lot of weight or is opened and closed frequently—without wobbling or getting damaged? I am thinking of possible reinforcements, additional wall fixings, or modifications to the construction. It would be helpful if anyone has experience with practical solutions or suitable materials to ensure the functionality and durability of this relatively delicate-looking piece of furniture under greater load. Thanks in advance for your tips!
Among all the reinforcement tips, I’d like to briefly ask whether it is really sensible to upgrade the Hemnes furniture like this. IKEA actually offers these pieces for regular household use – so why not just choose a sturdier piece of furniture right from the start if heavy loads and intensive use are expected?
Reinforcement alone can only help to a limited extent, but with loads of 30-40 kg (66-88 lbs) plus dynamic stress from frequent opening and closing, the material can still fatigue. There is a risk that after significant modification, the warranty may be voided, and potential damage could occur that is not easy to repair.
However, if improvising, wall mounting is indeed the key. But honestly: has anyone really been able to make parts permanently stable through retrofitting?

Still, when improvising, wall mounting is indeed the key.A big yes from me on that! Securing furniture to the wall quickly turns a shaky piece into a rock-solid one. Just get some additional brackets—those IKEA ones are often a bit delicate.
Also, reinforce shelves with extra small supports underneath to prevent sagging. And try closing the doors more gently; it reduces material wear in the long run—tiring, I know, but it really makes a difference!
