Hello everyone,

I am currently setting up the IKEA Hemnes range for a child's room. I have a question: How can the Hemnes furniture be arranged to be as child-friendly and safe as possible?

I am specifically concerned with aspects such as the stability of the furniture, potential tipping hazards, choosing the right screws and fasteners, and protection from sharp edges and corners.

Considerations about the type of surface treatment and handling small fastening parts that could be swallowed are also important to me.

Does anyone have experience or recommendations on how to best balance design, functionality, and safety with Hemnes furniture?

I look forward to constructive tips and advice!

Secure furniture firmly to the wall and install edge protectors on hazardous areas. Drawers should be secured to prevent them from being pulled out easily.

For me, it is important that all small parts are out of reach of children. Handles should be large enough and free of sharp edges. Otherwise, proper installation is the key.

Hello! ?

What I really like about Hemnes is that with just a few simple tweaks, you can add a lot of safety without losing the beautiful design.

My tip: Just stick some colorful corner protectors, which come in all colors, on the edges. It makes the kids’ room much friendlier and is super practical.

And Lewin, my little whirlwind, loves his HEMNES bed. I also attached non-slip pads underneath so it doesn’t move an inch on the laminate flooring.

Oh, and if you put it together with a bit of patience, everything is much easier! ?

We also placed felt pads under the furniture legs, which not only protect the floor but also help prevent slipping, which is important for small children.

That’s a very good point. Felt pads do reduce scratches, but they don’t prevent sliding on smooth floors. For maximum safety, I recommend rubberized floor stoppers or anti-slip pads.

Many HEMNES models have full-extension drawer slides without built-in soft-close functionality. This can pose a risk of finger pinching.

In this case, I would also recommend looking into protective strips or individual safety clips specifically designed for drawers to effectively prevent pinch injuries.

Lastly, regular safety inspections of all furniture components are essential to tighten screws and detect wear.
