Hello everyone, I recently purchased an IKEA Hemnes wardrobe and find the design and build quality very appealing. However, I quickly encountered limitations regarding storage space during use. Therefore, I am considering how the IKEA Hemnes can be expanded for more storage capacity. Specifically, I am interested in whether there are practical extensions, accessories, or modifications that can increase capacity without compromising stability or the overall harmonious appearance. I am open to all ideas, from modular add-ons and smart storage solutions to DIY adjustments. Looking forward to your experiences and suggestions!
The load capacity of Hemnes shelves is usually around 20–30 kg per shelf, depending on the width and material thickness. It is recommended to follow the official specifications from IKEA, which can often be found in the assembly instructions or product data sheets.
Regarding fasteners, screws with a minimum diameter of 3.5 mm (approximately 0.14 inches) and appropriate anchors for solid wood are advisable. It is important to pre-drill the material before screwing to avoid cracks.
Additionally, the load should be evenly distributed, and overloading individual shelves should be avoided to prevent warping or damage to the wooden parts.

What is often overlooked with Hemnes is the possibility to enlarge the wardrobe using matching top cabinets or extension units from the IKEA range. That sounds interesting. Can anyone provide examples of which top cabinets specifically fit well with the Hemnes and how they are installed? Are there any experiences regarding the stability of such combinations in everyday use?
Additionally, I would like to know if such extensions can be visually integrated well with existing furniture without looking out of place.
