Hello everyone, I am planning to protect my Ikea Brimnes furniture from long-term wear and tear and am looking for proven tips or possibly professional recommendations. Specifically, I am interested in methods to protect the surfaces from scratches, discoloration, or general deterioration without affecting the appearance or functionality of the furniture. Which care products are particularly suitable, and how often should they be applied? Has anyone had experience with protective films, sealants, or special maintenance techniques? It would also be helpful to know if there are any particular weak points in the Brimnes furniture that require special attention. Thanks in advance for your advice and tips!

It is best to wipe regularly with a damp cloth and avoid using aggressive cleaning agents. Wax- or oil-based furniture polishes are suitable for scratches. Protective films are practical but not recommended for all surfaces.

Hello Emilchen37, your question about the long-term protection of the Ikea Brimnes furniture is very well considered. The Brimnes series usually consists of particleboard with a melamine coating, which can be sensitive to moisture and mechanical stress. Therefore, the following points are helpful:

- Use mild cleaning agents and soft cloths to avoid damaging the surface.
- Furniture polishes based on wax can provide slight protection to the surface, but should be reapplied regularly.
- Protective films work well for heavily used surfaces like tabletops; however, make sure they are transparent and breathable to prevent moisture from being trapped.
- Pay special attention to edges and handles, as these tend to wear out faster and should be repaired if necessary.

Exactly, that is good advice. In general, you should also avoid placing heavy or sharp objects directly on the furniture without a protective barrier.

Hope this helps you!

It’s interesting how everyone immediately reaches for protective film. But honestly: doesn’t that change the look and feel of the furniture? I think with Brimnes, it’s better to use proven care products and respect the furniture’s design.

I’d say: only buy furniture polish with wax content and apply it every two to three months. It protects, noticeably extends the lifespan, and remains discreet.

Also, better to avoid films, as they collect dust and the adhesive can damage the surface in the long term.

I don’t really rely on that; it’s too risky.
