Hello everyone, I am planning to move soon and own several IKEA Brimnes furniture pieces, mainly dressers and a bed with built-in storage compartments. My question is quite specific: What is the best and easiest way to disassemble the Brimnes furniture during a move to avoid damaging the parts or screws? I am looking for tips on a careful approach, possibly recommendations for suitable tools or tricks that make disassembly easier. Additionally, I am interested in how to label or organize the parts to make reassembly straightforward. Thanks in advance for your helpful advice!

Do not fully remove the screws at first; remove the dowels first, then unscrew the screws. Here, I would suggest a more precise approach: With Brimnes, there is a risk that the dowels might break if you pull the piece apart too quickly before all screws are completely removed. My advice is to fully unscrew the screws first, then gently separate the wooden parts while paying attention to the dowels. If any dowels remain stuck, carefully remove them with pliers. Otherwise, the assembly process later will not go smoothly.
To summarize:
- Be patient, do not rush
- A cordless screwdriver with torque control helps when working carefully
- Collect screws and connectors, preferably in labeled bags
- Protect wooden parts from scratches
- Small tools like cable ties with tags can be used for organization
If anyone has specifically disassembled the bed: Please share your experience briefly, as it is often constructed differently than the dressers.

Thank you all for the detailed and very helpful responses! From this, I have developed a pretty good plan: patiently and carefully loosen the screws using a cross-head screwdriver and a cordless drill (with torque control), collect and label all small parts in small bags, temporarily store and protect the wooden components, and try to minimize unnecessary movement of the parts to prevent any tearing.
The tips regarding the beds are especially interesting, and I will pay close attention to them. I will be happy to share my experiences after the move.
