Hello everyone, I recently purchased the IKEA Besta system for my home office workspace because it offers a practical storage solution. However, I find it lacks ergonomic features that are really important for long workdays. My question is: How can the IKEA Besta be modified or supplemented to make it more ergonomic? In particular, I am interested in adjustments regarding working height, sitting/standing positions, as well as better cable and monitor management. What are proven solutions or useful additions to make the Besta desk suitable for ergonomic working in a home office?

I can easily understand how challenging it is to design a desk ergonomically while maintaining sufficient storage space. Especially when working for long periods, the wrong height or posture can quickly lead to tension and discomfort. What really helped me back then was a combination of adjustable legs and a monitor arm, along with a reliable swivel chair.

For me, it’s also important not to stress about getting everything perfect right away. Sometimes it takes time and fine adjustments. How do you feel at your workspace now? Are there any specific issues you would like to address with a solution?

Hello butato, I’m adding to the previous posts with a brief step-by-step guide that can help you ergonomically improve your BESTA setup:

1. Measure: Determine your ideal working height, which is the height where your arms form a right angle while typing.

2. Attach legs: If necessary, remove the base cabinets or kickboards and mount height-adjustable table legs under the BESTA tabletop.

3. Monitor position: Invest in a monitor arm, which is usually easy to attach to the tabletop. This allows you to adjust the screen height and distance individually.

4. Ergonomic seating solution: Choose a chair with height and tilt adjustment that matches your newly set working height.

5. Cable management: Use cable channels and clips that can be mounted under the tabletop. This prevents cable strain and keeps things organized.

6. Optional additions: Place a sit-stand converter on the BESTA if you want to work standing up more often.

A common mistake is not adjusting the working height to your body size. Make sure to set this properly so your work is more enjoyable and healthier.

I would like to add that when ergonomically redesigning the IKEA BESTA system, stability and load capacity also play an important role. BESTA panels are often not designed for heavy loads or dynamic height adjustments. Therefore, you should:

- Pay close attention to the attachment points when installing height-adjustable legs and consider using reinforcement plates if necessary.

- For mounting a monitor, I recommend using VESA-compatible arms with secure clamping mounts or wall brackets if space allows.

- Cable management should be arranged to avoid any tension on the connectors, as movement can quickly cause damage.

- Ergonomics also means considering the workstation in combination with its environment. So also check lighting, air circulation, and possibly a footrest to ensure optimal posture.

Do you already have exact measurements and how much weight the structure needs to support? This makes targeted recommendations easier.
