Hello everyone,
I want to enhance the appearance of an open shelving unit from the IKEA Besta series, primarily through the targeted use of lighting. My main question is: How can an open IKEA Besta shelving system be designed and equipped with lighting so that it is not only functional but also a real visual highlight?
I am especially interested in the choice of lighting (type, color, placement), possible decorative additions, and tips on how to showcase the shelving system better through light and design without making it look cluttered. I’m very interested in your experiences, recommendations, or ideas for custom modifications.
Looking forward to your suggestions!

Does anyone have experience with systems like these combined with Ikea BESTA? Are there any recommendations for plug-and-play solutions?Yes, there are specially designed LED lighting kits for the Besta series that are easy to install. IKEA itself offers, for example, the "Omlopp" LED spotlight set, which can be mounted quite easily and is dimmable.
Additionally, I recommend third-party products such as those from Osram or Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus. These often come with features like color temperature adjustment and dimming, are controlled wirelessly, and can be installed without much effort.
Important: Make sure that the power supply and cable management for a BESTA combination are well planned to achieve a neat and tidy result.

Otherwise, it’s advisable to hide the light sources behind furniture edges and diffuse them to avoid harsh shadows.
